The charters among us will enjoy this release - you can now draw, annotate and measure on your charts across tablets and mobile devices.

A lot of you will also know that over the festive period we set up the Stockopedia Stock Picking challenge for 2020. Everybody loves a spot of friendly competition and the number of people that have taken part has generated some fantastic insights into differences between the Stockopedia community and outside investors.

Here is a snippet of the latest updates:

Charts 1 - Enhanced mobile and tablet experience

You now create and check your charts on the go with a greatly expanded suite of charting functions on your tablet and mobile devices. You'll find all of your favourite options, from annotations to measurements, so you can continue your Technical Analysis away from your desktop.

Charts 2 - visuals refreshed and bugs squashed

Additionally, you'll see that we have updated the design of the charts to become more visually aligned with the rest of the site. Everything is still there, but the Print and Save image options now live under < and the dropdown menu is shown with the cog symbol across the top of the chart.

We've also taken this opportunity to fix a raft of outstanding chart bugs. Formatting issues have been resolved, charts are easier than ever to draw on and we've tightened up on data and functions in general. There are too many small upgrades to mention - if you have been sticking to the old site because of issues here, do switch over now to check out these improvements to charts.

The 2020 Stock Picking Challenge takes off

More than 2,000 Stockopedia subscribers and other retail investors are taking part in the Stockopedia 2020 Stock Picking Challenge. It's great to see such an enthusiastic response as the team worked around the clock towards the end of last year to make this competition possible.

After analysing all of the stocks selected we were able to identify the top 10 stocks picked by all competition candidates. Here's the list:

Why do the charts still allow you to zoom / resize past the amount of data that is available. Virtually every time I interact with the chart this happens, and it is incredibly annoying.

Can we have the target price shown in the data please?

Hi Paula, do you mean add target prices into charts? I can pass this suggestion along if so. Otherwise, you can find a company's target price on its StockReport in the 'Analyst Forecasts' section, below the Financial Summary.

Fibonacci retracement charts would be really helpful.

This charting tool was discussed with pin point accuracy at the last meeting at Vectorvest with the MD David Paul. I use this tool quite a lot,but it is not yet on Stockopedia.

I hold 3 shares from the list of the 10 Stock Picks, but prefer PSN with an 8.14% dividend against RDW with a 5% in the choice of building stocks.

Syrio - if you could use the green button to get to the Support team that is your best bet for finding a solution.

Hi Jack,
I raised a request via Alex (Help chat) to include a 'Will Buy At' column that W Buffet uses (see ''How to Pick Stocks like W Buffet''; Ch. 8 - Timothy Hick) - very useful indeed. At the moment I run 3 sets of lists (my stockbroker, Stockopedia and my own which has the Will Buy At, and Comments columns- a nuisance). Please look out for it as request has been submitted.
Would be great to reduce the watchlists/To Buy lists, and have one list that has ultimate functionality incl. these points.

Hi Jack, thanks for the update. Improvements are coming through thick and fast, good to see. Glad that folios are next on the list. I really hope that the hide empty positions bug is fixed as that is one of the things that is stopping me from moving to the new site. And I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one that will cheer when this is sorted.

Yes I quite agree about the empty positions on folios. Let’s get the basics right first before adding any fancy things. I reported the problem with folios about 6 months ago, they did not seem to understand the issue but passed it on. There does seem to be an issue with foreign shares, some seem to using the incorrect rates of exchange, it is not across the board just on some, you may want to check your folios, this is on the old system.

Re Folios: can I make a repeat a request I made previously. For the comparison graph - can you please add the option to compare against TOTAL RETURN indicies: for most of us this is far more important than indices without dividends (remember that the majority of return over time is typically the dividend).

Hi Robert, we do want to add total returns but these data sets comes with an added cost that we can't take on right now. We will get there though!

Top 20 stocks - I'm guilty for not submitting my picks, just because I was tied up during that period. HOWEVER - I'm wondering why all the top picks are UK stocks? does that mean Stockopedia just has too few non-uk users? or is the UK market the leader for 2020?

Hi Sachiv, it's more your first suggestion - we have a lot of UK users that are more familiar with UK stocks. This probably means that, in this competition, those that approached it with a global mindset or are more familiar with higher growth markets could have an edge.

Good to see the charting improvements and I'm now comfortable using the new site. The one thing I miss (or haven't found) is the ability to send direct private messages to other members. Is it on the new site or coming soon??

Happy to hear it. Regarding direct private messages, my understanding is that it wasn't a very widely used feature and as such there are no plans right now to bring it back. If you think it should be added I can log that as feedback for the team?

I used the private messages from time to time Jack and found it useful functionality. If this could be logged as a request to bring this feature back that would be great.

I know it is not about charts but don't know where else to put this question. On the old site looking at folio, under analysis it showed the forecast ratios including yield of the folio compared with the market. Is this on the new site? I can't see it
