Just wondering does anyone use it?

Do you value from it?

What level - The £8 or £25 - And what's the major difference - Seems to me if your going to have it you'd want the £25 - All input from existing or past subscribers welcome.

I did subscribe to DividendMax for awhile and made a very tidy sum on a couple of high yield recommendations/picks. However divi data comes free at https://www.dividenddata.co.uk

Short data from https://shorttracker.co.uk/

I use LSE (London South East) for level 2 live prices as it seems to be the cheapest and is reasonably reliable.

I also scan H Lansdown and Bloomberg.

Not looked at google portfolios for a long time.

"As part of this updated experience, you’ll still be able to:

Follow the stocks you’re interested in - the list of stocks in your portfolio will be migrated into the new experience on Google automatically
Receive the latest industry news and market trends

However, as part of this updated experience, the Portfolios feature will no longer be available. To keep a copy for your records, download your portfolio now."

Not sure what they're trying to say ("new experience", hah), that users will be allowed to have a watch list instead of a portfolio? Sounds like a downgrade, and while I am not reliant on google for portfolios, it is a shame if that's the direction it is moving in.

SCSW and MI are both about £160 each, with a £30 off first year. Off the tip sheets SCSW do seem to about the best, I did have a look about 1 year ago but their recent performance had not been so good.

Sharescope/Sharepad is another service a few on here use and find useful, it's £25 pm with a 3 month trial for £25. Pro version is £60 pm.

I agree that Stocko could improve the share prices, live would be good.

Investors Chronicle about £100 per year, I used to be a subscriber but not anymore.

There is also iii which is free, quite a bit of info. on there.

Thanks herbie47 - I tried moneyam this morning for live prices - And gave up after 3 minutes as it kept flicking over to contended prices - Not even worth the wasted effort - Still on the hunt for free live prices :)

Or may have to give them £110 a year which is better than £200 or whatever it is I pay LSE for live and Level 2.

I just asked at Research Tree about the restriction on PIs using the service. The answer was:

'Hi there, if you subscribe as a £25/month customer you have full access to all the broker research on our system. To do this you will need to step through a 2-part compliance process online. If you meet that criteria then you are able to subscribe (effectively you need to confirm you meet 2 of 3 following criteria: 1) experience in the finance sector, 2) €500k of wealth, 3) regular trading. '

They went on to say that when you meet 2/3 you are then called an 'elective professional', so you can access all the data.

HL has live prices not sure if you need to register to see them or not. I'm not a fan of LSE myself.

Research Tree - Seems fair enough - Am taking a wee break from Wednesday so will probably sort it out next week and report back after on the quality and use I get from it.

HL - I don't use them but I am of the understanding that you only get live prices with your portfolio - Meaning you cannot set up Watchlists - I stand to be corrected here.

The alternative of course is just to set up Watchlists on my Spread betting account :) But I figure I will probs just pay for live prices from Moneyam.

No, I can see live prices on the screen without signing in, also the latest trades, for an actual live quote then yes you will have to be signed in. Watchlists I you can set up, I have about 20, on a mobile no need to sign in but yes there is 15 min delay on prices but signed in on a pc I get live prices on watchlists.

HL - £450 a year per £100,000 for the first £250,000 - What - Over £1,000 a year for a portfolio of £250,000 or more - Are they mad? Are their clients mad?

And - 1% for a phone deal - It's nuts!

I'm by no means a skin flint but I currently pay £5 a quarter and £9.90 a trade - Would rather pay the £110 to Moneyam for live prices and £20 a year Management fees I reckon!

Am I missing something here with HL?

These are the requirements: "The size of my financial instrument portfolio, defined as including cash deposits and financial instruments, exceeds EUR 500,000;

I work or have worked in the financial sector for at least one year in a professional position, which requires knowledge of the transactions or services envisaged;

I have carried out transactions, in significant size, on the relevant market at an average frequency of 10 per quarter over the previous four quarters;"

Not sure why you need to do 2/3 of those to access this information, seems crazy regulations to me. So if you work in the section, only have €490,000 or only did 37 trades in the last year that makes you ineligible. Or don't work in the sector you could have €100m but still fail if you don't trade frequently.

Well the phone dealing is capped at £50 but most will deal online where charges are £12 a trade
The management charges you quote are only for funds. If you hold individual shares as most here will do the charges are max £45 for an ISA and nothing for shares held outside an ISA.

Hi guys, I've just been told about this thread so thought I would chuck in my two cents worth if that's ok.

herbie47, I completely agree with you. Especially with respect to the bizarre criterion of trading 10 times per quarter. Warren Buffett may well not meet that criterion and, as we all know, trading frequently doesn't mean you're a sophisticated investor.

The wording you've pasted in (and we use) is pretty much lifted straight out of the European regulations (and hence FCA regulations too). If we didn't abide by this then we couldn't offer our service to anyone.

The point that is missed by the people who wrote these rules is that much of the trading in equities, especially small and midcaps, is from individual investors. In fact, for many companies, it is PIs that generate the vast majority of the daily volumes that are traded and hence inform the daily price movements.

I fully agree that there is a broad range in quality when it comes to research. Many notes are the sort of one-pager that is reacting to events that day and while useful, they lack the detail of a full report because time is a factor. However, many other notes are real deep dives, with a lot of detail and fantastic insight.

Examples of this include:
- The excellent 50+ page deep dive into the UK Challenger Banks published by Panmure earlier in the year,
- The quarterly industry reports from finncap (eg Tailings, Rude Health, Machinations, Shopping Trolley)
- The N+1 Singer small-cap quantitative research reports such as their recent Quality Screen
- Most Initiation reports, such as Liberum's 71-page Hotel Chocolat initiation.

Another point to this is if it were a crowdfunding campaign we would be able to use the simple High Net Worth self-certification process which has a much lower threshold of £250k wealth and only needing to meet one of the criteria. Being an unlisted, private company, and often a startup, the risks related to these investments are far higher and yet the bar is set so much lower. It makes no sense to me, but there we are...

Hopefully, MiFID II will improve things as we may well see an increase in the amount of research available both for free and as part of our £25 per month offering.

In the meantime, I hope you can differentiate what we are trying to achieve with the rules to which we have to play by, however much they don't make much sense.

Unfortunately it still doesn't help me. Although, in reality, what would happen if I answered wrongly by mistake? Oooops I forgot those extra 10 trades were 13 months ago not 12!

Also what happened to the fund managers articles, was he the naked fund manager? I liked them, and could read them without being a finance professional.
