I used a Stockopedia transaction ‘watch’ folio to track the prices of shares mentioned in Simon Thompson’s Bargain Share portfolio. It was up about 16% by 8.45am. I am gobsmacked. It almost makes a mockery of all the reading and number-crunching that one does trying to identify a company to invest in.
This is my first February trading shares. How does his Bargain portfolio play out over time? Is there going to be a period of serious volatility for some days or weeks? If you missed getting in at 8.01am, what's the advice? What happened last year?
I've not done an analysis on the specific IC tips in the past but my general experience is that most rises on tips are quickly reversed. So if the average gain in the last 45 mins is 16% then you will probably make money shorting them. Although really I wouldn't recommend shorting to a novice investor since it's very hard to do successfully since the mindset required is quite different to the mindset to be a successful long investor.
