Well I'm using firefox and having earlier tried to start a new thread (Worth a dabble?) on an unused board, it refused to allow me to paste in my prepared piece, suggesting I switched to IE. I tried that and it accepted the text but came up with an error message when submitted...as you will see on clicking the thread on "active threads".
Now lookee here, I'm a bleedin' pensioner and can do without all this techy malarky ;-)

the firefox frequent (but not 100%) refusal to paste is v irritating but CTRL-V does the job.

paste seems to be working this morning - have you done something ??? if so, there is a problem that right clicking to Paste highlights teh para you are on and then Pasting does indeed paste but deletes it. On balance this is more annoying than having to Ctrl-V :(

Thanks, Davjo. It's really helpful to tell us these things whenever they happen as otherwise we are not aware of them since we don't typically use the site in the same way. We will look into it and fix it. Can you email me any more details on how the error occurred and what the error message said? If you want, please also send me the prepared text so I can set up the thread for you and test it in the process?

Hmmm - these right clicks are strange. We generally develop on Macs where we don't actually have right-click buttons. It may be a PC related issue with the text editor. I'm not sure how we can solve this issue, but we'll look into it.

I'd appreciate some feedback, as I'm on a PC now, but do not have Word installed. I can see that right clicking selects the paragraph, but there's not a lot we can do about that... you'll have to always press enter and paste on a new line.
The editor is an open source plug in that lets you treat your text in a familiar word processing interface. We could get rid of it and go to a simple textfield, which would be quicker on page load, but you'd lose the formatting abilities etc.
I've upgraded the editor to the newest version... if anyone can, could they let me know exact details of the issues when pasting into the editor, from which application.

FYI - in the interests of the keeping it simple principle, and the fact that some users were finding it confusing, we've deprecated the old feedback page, and the 'help us improve this page' feature in the left column.
I know there were some avid users of that little box, and it's been extremely helpful, but it makes much more sense for all bug reports and feature requests to go through the same interface. Apologies for any inconvenience caused on your side, but it makes our life much simpler this way... if we can spend less time answering feature requests, and more time coding, we'll build things twice as fast!
You can post anonymously in those feature forums - you don't have to login there.
Now... I shall place my head upon this nice wooden block, and await the sharp blades that will fall from all angles.

But how/where do you want us to bug report now? As distinct from request a new feature?

Very good point there db. I consider myself to have an extremely wide vocabulary - but that was a new one on me!! I'd also note that for those familiar with its more common usage, "deprecate" has a much stronger negative implication than I believe the techie usage implies. I'd say that 95 out of 100 users won't have a clue what was meant....

Hear hear!! I have not got the slightest interest in anything under an uninelligible banner such as "folksonomy" and I can tell you now that I'd never look at it!!! If you want feedback from users on stuff then it is essential to keep things as simple as possible AND in standard English.

I DEPRECATE the removal of the "help us" box. As an avid user, I think it is a mistake to remove it! In particular I used it to report broken links and other stuff I didn't actually care much about - it was one-click to do so, so was very starightforward to help. The result will simply be less feedback - certainly I'm now unlikely to bother reporting stuff that I don't personally care about and, as I said, I do think removing it is a (big) mistake.

The diminution of the English language is injurious enough without all and sundry having to gratify the unaspirant denominator - the great hoi polloi should be fortified to augment their phraseology and not to the contrary.

I guess you don't want to make announcements for small improvements, but I wouldn't want you guys to think that they are un-noticed... So I think the main tabs at the top are now looking better with Blog removed and I like Community much better than Investors :)
And thanks for fixing the spell check. And the problem pasting in Firefox seems to have gone away :)

The site should be working now... many apologies for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience. We are working on a backup system to prevent these issues recurring in the future, and the new site design/setup (ETA August 14th) should also help prevent outages.

Just a quick note to say that we have tracked down the issue that was causing the broken links when internal Stockopedia hyperlinks (e.g. http://www.stockopedia.com/forum/view/30938/fund-managers-going-the-way-of-the-dodo) were being copied directly into posts. Apologies to those that were experiencing this bug and it shouldn't be an issue going forward for any new links being copied into posts... We will try to track down all broken historic links - if you do find any that we have missed, please let us know via the Bug Report on the Red Button. Thanks, M

We are almost done with the new site ("Stockopedia 2.0") and are currently doing a lot of testing, bug-fixing and optimisation for speed which is likely to take a couple more weeks. At this point, we thought that it would be a good idea to share it with you in its current form in order to get your feedback. As a result, we have set up a demo site - it's http://demo.stockopedia.co.uk. You will need to log in separately to that site but your existing login details from this site should work. We must emphasise that this demo site is PURELY for testing purposes so please continue to use the existing site as normal for posting, trading or editing. We are very happy for you to try out the features on the new site as it will help us identify bugs and get good feedback but, when we launch the new site properly in a couple of weeks, ALL DATA on the demo site will be erased as we migrate the old database into the new system, so please be warned.
We should also emphasise that, as a demo site, there are a number of BUGS, some of which we have identified and some of which we probably haven't. If you see a bug (broken link etc), please report to us using the Red Feedback Button so that the Forums aren't drowning in bug reports. There are a couple of features that we haven't yet fully implemented - for example, transaction support in the Portfolios. We are considering merging Portfolios and Watchlists into one tool, primarily for simplicity purposes. We would welcome debate on this issue, so please get in touch.

Any chance you could reinstate the text box into the test site for the purpose of bug reports? I'm happy to give feedback with a one click mechanism, but (as previously mentioned!) I find the red button too clunky for bug reports, though am happy to use it for new ideas etc.

Hi All, this is just an update to say that we rolled out a few changes this week. They are mainly related to site speed so hopefully the site should feel a bit zippier. If you notice any glitches, please let us know either by email (admin at stockopedia.co.uk) or by posting them here.
As a number of people have requested, we have added better breadcrumbs around the site to aid navigation. We have changed the layout of the Activity Page in order to i) include more content above the fold and ii) make your Favourites page more prominent to allow people to more easily filter the Stream to the content they are interested in. If you're not following Stocks, Topics and Authors and actively using Favourites, we'd definitely recommend it. We've also been trying to make the individual company profile pages more informative and helpful.
We have some more changes on the way. And for all your long-suffering Blackberry users, we are working on a new mobile version of the site which should be ready shortly, so hopefully that will make it easier to access Stockopedia on the move.
