Company History
- Stanelco can trace its corporate history back to the early 1940s as part of Standard Telephone and Cables Ltd. The business went on to become an early mover in the welding of plastics in the early 1960s.
- 1991 saw the Stanelco business become Stanelco plc, a public listed company, on the unlisted securities market of the London Stock Exchange.
- In 1996 the company moved to a full Stock Exchange listing.
- The late 1990s and early 2000s saw the development of the business as a key player in the bioplastics area. This began with development work on the RF welding of starch based capsules and broadened into other water soluble and starch based biopolymers with the acquisitions of Adept(2003), Aquasol(2004), and Biotec(2005).
- 50% of Biotec was subsequently sold to SPhere - a leader in flexible bag production in Europe.
