Dave,
Many years ago as my father approached retirement he was introduced to St James's Place by a colleague. It was a negative experience that encouraged him to stay away from the markets for a decade or more - and so the 'experience' was doubly costly.
That is not to say that all "Wealth Managers" are to be eyed negatively. My father does still talk warmly about the "free" wine tasting evenings that were organised by Rothschilds!
Looking at press stories over recent years about St. James's Place (LON:STJ) :
- The Problem with STJ: https://www.evidenceinvestor.c...
- Why STJ will not review its charges: https://www.ftadviser.com/your...
- Saint or Sinner?: https://www.which.co.uk/news/2...
What do I think about St. James's Place (LON:STJ) ?
- Asset managers should do well in a period of asset price inflation - assets under management should rise and so fee income should rise, too?
- But what if younger investors, less wedded to advisory services, are keen to either undertake some DIY investing or perform a cost benefit analysis on the advice? How does St. James's Place (LON:STJ) compare?
- As a manager of my investments I would not touch them with the proverbial barge-pole.
- As an investment there are other asset managers who represent a better investment case. Just go to: https://www.stockopedia.com/se...
