Where to start a new thread
If you want to post about a small and/or little known company, you may wonder whether to post under the company's EPIC or under the relevant Sector. In other bulletin boards you have no choice - on advfn you have to post under the EPIC and no-on will ever see your post unless they look at that thread specifically - on TMF you have to post on the sector board as there are very few individual stock boards. But in Spedia you have the choice...
The answer (IMO) is to post under the individual company board. This has the following advantages:
I hope that Spedia are planning to solve the 'small companies are not visible problem' by allowing people to favourite a whole sector, so ANY posts ijn that sector will show up as New on your favouites page (when it is created - in the meanwhile everything shows up on the Active Threads page).
So this way will give us the best of both worlds :)
Posting about foreign stocks
Everyone wants this to be possible. But whilst Spedia are working out how to do this (and how to pay for it), this seems to me to be a good situation to write a post in a Sector board, putting the company name in the title so people can easily see what it is about.

Great post. On the foreign stocks point, we have created a temporary theme called Overseas Stocks - http://www.stockopedia.com/forum/threads/overseas_stocks - so people could use that to post on foreign stocks. However, it's a bit of a strange categorisation since this isn't really a theme, so I must say that I prefer your idea about doing it under the sector, where possible.

Noooooo - I do not like that idea of an "Overseas Stocks" catch all theme at all.
They should definitely go into the sector boards Id say as people interested in a sector wont really care too much if a stock is overseas listed or not (given the ease of dealing these days).
Just a reminder to all - if you want to refer to a stock, just add a £symbol in front of the ticker and it will create a link to the stock overview page so instead of writing the ticker like GKP, if you write £ticker and hit submit, you will get a link like this: Gulf Keystone Petroleum . This works in Articles, Wikis and Threads. We will make this clearer in the Help Pages too.
The only issue with this feature at the moment is that punctuation may prevent this from working, hence I wrote above "GKP ." and not GKP." We will try to fix that.

A number of users have enquiried how to upload a profile picture on this new site. There's now a short help page on this here - http://stockopedia.co.uk/help/profile - but just to summarise it on this thread:
To upload a picture, all you need to do is go to http://www.stockopedia.com/profile/edit, and there's a box called "Upload or Change your Site Photo" for an image (it needs to be an image, not a link, unlike in the forums).
If you browse to a JPEG, GIF or PNG image file in your desktop, and then hit upload, the image will then be in your profile and visible here: http://www.stockopedia.com/profile/view .
You can also add other profile details on the same page if you want, e.g. your vocation, areas of interest (e.g. commodities or asia), investment strategy, risk appetite, investment horizon etc. It's up to you what you include.
Finally, if you ever want to promote your company/blog/book around the site, you can do that by entering your corporate details here: http://www.stockopedia.com/profile/promote . We are very happy for Stockopedia Contributors to promote themselves and their interests indirectly. To accomodate this, we have set up space to advertise what matters most to you in order to thereby drive traffic to your businesses. Direct self-promotion in an Article, Forum Post or Wiki is however not acceptable since it blurs the line between content and advertising, so please bear this in mind.

Direct self-promotion in an Article, Forum Post or Wiki is however not acceptable since it blurs the line between content and advertising, so please bear this in mind.
I don't think this is very clear under your Rules of Engagement, where number 4 (Advertising) says:
Self promotion of your website, product, or services is not allowed on any part of our site. This includes displaying your website url or email. Any users found violating our policy will be banned immediately and permanently.
Presumably this should be changed to reflect your aim that self-promotion in an Article, Forum Post or Wiki is ... not acceptable.
