Founded in 1996 as a telecoms business, the business has grown to over 300,000 domestic and small-business customers. The company doesn’t advertise but instead recruits customers via an army of 30,000 distributors, who sign up new customers in return for a residual income. In March 2009, TEP was named "Company of the Year" at the Quoted Company Awards annual dinner.
