Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of the Week Ahead.

This will be an even briefer edition of the report than usual for me. But you may notice in the tables below that I have now added AGMs to the “Trading Updates” section of the company announcement table. So hopefully this weekly resource will now be more helpful for you, when it comes to anticipating the market-moving news of the week ahead. Companies do typically issue a short trading update on the day of their AGM.

As for the week ahead in macro, there are two central bank decisions anticipated, from the Federal Reserve and the Bank of England.

However, in each case there is no change to interest rates anticipated.

Bank of England: according to Reuters, all 60 economists they polled expect no change in Bank rate this month. Most do expect the downward trend to resume with a cut later in the year.

Similarly, in the United States, no change to rates is expected. President Trump’s tariff policies are still seen as posing an inflation risk, and preventing any cuts in the short-term. But a majority of economists do expect a rate cut to follow later in the year, probably in September.

In terms of UK company announcements, it is set to be another fairly quiet week in terms of results statements - but there will be plenty of AGMs!

I notice some companies have 2 AGM dates on Stockopedia, only looked at Mission (LON:TMG) and Warpaint London (LON:W7L), both have that issue.

Is it possible to indicate which ones, are AGM dates, maybe an asterisk?

I'm more interested in trading updates than AGMs.

FTSE All Share and AIM continues to outperform the major indices with much of the lifting done in the small caps this week by the precious metal miners and Oil & Gas sectors especially following the spike in oil price on geopolitical risk and short covering. While the spike is likely to taper, oil price have been trending higher so the breakout was technically on the cards ( I posted a chart here 2 days before the Iran strike)

. Dollar weakness has added to commodity strength : Brent Oil up almost 12% , Gold 3.6%, platinum has had a wild ride following a sharp spike on short covering but closes +3.6% on the week.

Seems a lot guys and not many names know of. Perhaps some screening required.

You cannot swing at every ball (US term but "what would be ours" -

Football of course - so give it a go ....

so use a process (which I do)

in the below plots:

names in green are bullish so they are in uptrends : new information arriving at the market which confirms or accentuates that reinforces the trend: the opposite is true if it's disappointing ( it was already in the price)

conversely, names in red are bearish so in downtrends (or wallowing sideways near lows ) - new information that underscores this accelerates the trend: conversely, surprises cause breakouts and trend shifts (these are very visible in charts called breakouts or breakaway gaps- they can signal the start of multi week, month and even year trends and are some of the most powerful trend signals)

use charts to identify the above, make short lists and either have small positions in advance or await the market reaction and the trend confirmation OR change

You can't be in every one but you can be prepared for the ones with the highest probabilities of success

It's all about process and preparedness
