The week ahead is set to be a shorter one for many of us, with public holidays on both sides of the Atlantic.
Corporate news may be quieter as a result, but there are a few highlights that could make waves – including scheduled Q1 results from AI chip giant NVIDIA (NSQ:NVDA), together with the associated geopolitical commentary.
With the S&P 500 now lagging the FTSE 100 this year, UK investors may be starting to wonder whether US equity valuations will continue to deflate, or gain new strength.
There certainly seems to be a growing narrative about a burgeoning rotation of institutional assets out of the US and into other global markets.
US events may dominate the economic news, too. Rating agency Moody’s stripped the US of its triple-A rating last week, downgrading it to (a still excellent) AA1 against a backdrop of rising concern about federal debt levels.
US government bonds have fallen this week as President Trump has made efforts to push a bill containing a raft of tax cuts through Congress. Analysts believe the changes could add $3tn to US national debt over the coming decade.
