Telecom plus PLC (trading as the Utility Warehouse) supplies a wide range of utility services (gas, electricity, fixed line telephony, mobile telephony and broadband internet) to both residential and business customers. It seems to be very well placed to do well out of an economic slowdown. Good set of interim results for the six months ended 30 September 2008.
- Revenue up 25% to £88.9m (2007: £71.1m)
- Profit before tax up 55% to £9.8m (2007: £6.4m)
- Continued strong underlying cash generation; net cash £28.9m
- Earnings per share up 64% to 10.8p (2007: 6.6p)
- Interim dividend of 5p per share (2007: 4p)
- Intention to pay a total dividend for the current year of not less than 17.5p and to pay a total dividend of 22p for next year!
Shares have held up well recently so it ain't cheap but it's an interesting play on value-conscious behaviour...
