I find the lack of visibility with etf & index dividends to be exasperating.
Example
iShares MSCI Poland UCITS ETF which tracks the MSCI Poland Index
The dividend yield on that index is over 3%.
The ETF tracks the index very closely but does not pay a dividend.
All this would be fine if the MSCI Poland Index was a total return index (ie including dividends rolled up), but I cannot find anything which says it is, including on the MSCI website.
I therefore presume it is not a total return index. If it were a total return index, surely that would be specified ? In comparison, if I go to the FTSE website, I can track the FTSE 100 capital price performance OR the total return (the latter including the dividends).
Which therefore leaves the question -what happens to the dividends ?
