Value investing is a subject that has generated reams of research and intellectual debate in the decades since Ben Graham and David Dodd wrote Security Analysis in 1934. Earlier this month, researchers at American fund management firm AQR Capital offered up a new paper that seeks to understand why value works in the stock market. This week, Stockopedia's Ed Croft had a look at AQR's findings, including the implications for rules-based investors and why blending value with momentum and quality can be so effective.

Continuing with the value theme, Patrick O'Shaughnessy, at his new website The Investor's Field Guide, picks up on the subject of differentiating between being a 'value' or 'momentum' investor in Value Investing: Lessons from the World's Top Fund Managers. Meanwhile, Nick Kirrage at The Value Perspective blog takes a deeper look at what value investing is (and what it isn't) in Beyond belief – Value investing may be a broad church but some things must fall outside its walls. And one final mention on the subject of valuation - bearing in mind the old adage to “sell in May and go away..." is John Authers in the FT on the likelihood of a correction in US market prices, in Stock valuations are no help in timing trades (£).
