Sterling Energy has spent a long time in the doldrums, having been caught over-leveraged by the oil price fall in 2008 occurring before they could divest their US operations. Today they have announced a major recapitalisation, raising £60mn+ in a placing and they intend to follow this by raising a further £20mn in an Open Offer:

The deal also brings the arrival of Alistair Beardsall (Executive Chairman of Emerald, which is now in the process of being taken over by Sinopec) to the board, along with Michael Kroupeev and his Waterford vehicle (a major shareholder in Emerald too!) - which will own 29.99% of the shares once the placing has been completed!

Time to "watch this space" I suspect, once the fund raisings have been completed.

I'm surprised at the key players coming in before Emerald is completely done and dusted - but they plainly don't intend to waste any time.....so it will be interesting to see what their strategy is going to be.in relation to SEY's asset mix.
