About Me:

Millennial who started investing in 2010.
15% - 20% p.a. will make me a millionaire and I intend to do it.

I hold an MSc in Investment Analysis

Investment Strategy
I trade... monthly
I tend to buy... according to my system
I hold for... a year
I invest with... <£50k
Diversification is ... important, but not beyond 10 positions
I look for Quality Growth stocks, with the odd (usually unsuccesful) foray into Value plays and commodity ETFs. 8-12 positions, long-only, no leverage, run winners, cut losers mercilessly at 10%-15%. Technicals: buy on price stability, attempt to anticipate a breakout, avoid downtrends. Fundamentals: good margins, net cash, with trading either improving or 'ahead of expectations'.

I've been on here for 7 years, and this is easily the least interesting period for small caps - well stocks generally - that I can remember. Everything decent is fully priced. The quality small co's of a few years ago are now mid-caps on 30-plus p/e ratios. There are no Globo's or Quindell's to rail against. I think it's entirely appropriate the reports become…

I have a note on file from a couple of years ago, saying the reason I didn't invest in Portmeirion (LON:PMP) was sales to S Korea tanking without sufficient explanation from the company. Sales were -21% in FY16, then a further -32% in FY17. So it appears a structural long-term problem in that market, rather than something temporary.

Alpha FX (LON:AFX) please. Interim results this morning. Outlook 'we remain highly confident of delivering a full year outcome at least in line with expectations' but it's down 7% so far, so clearly something in there the market doesn't like.

If anything does come of this please let me know. Edinburgh preferred, Glasgow might be a stretch.

Anyone thinking of using a short/inverse ETF or a leveraged ETF really needs to heed the warnings in this article: https://www.morningstar.com/articles/271892/warning-leveraged-and-inverse-etfs-kill-portfolios.html I've been tempted by them in the past but this was enough to put me off. The longer you hold them the more dangerous they are, and it becomes almost certain that you'll lose money.
