Investment Strategy

Diversification is ... essential to reduce risk
Aim to be long term and buy stocks with a durable competitive advantage, but prone to some short term trading after spending my career doing just that.

Hello, This is the response I got from my IR contact at Somero Enterprises Inc (LON:SOM) when I asked what could be the possible cause for the delay in payment. I replied, that this kind of thing will impact sentiment and as such they should take it seriously. I have left her email on in case any other holders which to express their frustration. Regards…

Hi, I am in the process of researching a universe of names that qualify for Business Property Relief (BPR) on AIM and therefore will be inheritance tax (IHT) free after the two year holding period, for my father. My experience so far, is that IR departments are very cautious about confirming their status and will only ever confirm if they currently qualify. I can appreciate…

Hello, Anybody got any views on DCG? I bought into this some time ago and whilst it has done a job for me, I'm increasingly feeling like the recent rally is an opportunity to bank the gains and move on. My main fears are the net debt, div cover of just 1.04x, a ROCE which may have peaked, the possibility that the mineral whey product…

Hi all, Just looking at Polypipe and am liking what I've found so far. Anyone a holder, got a view? Cheers Paul

Hi, Has anyone looked at CLIG recently? I've been watching the price for a while but haven't fully researched it yet. On the face of it it ticks a lot of boxes, but I'm wondering if there is anything I've missed? Cheers Paul

Morning all, Just had the following from AJ Bell. I have immediately forwarded on to Jennifer at Somero. It does highlight a few issues to me, one of which being the charge imposed by AJ Bell for FX payments, when they clearly don't pay for the service themselves. BoA will just make a spread trade price for the transaction. It is not clear who exactly…

Hi, Paul Jourdan is the Amati guy. He comes across as considered and is well regarded in the VCT world I think, but I don't really know if his record reflects those statements! Regards Paul

Hi, Re Somero Enterprises Inc (LON:SOM) I would guess that the cheque line is just a fob off. The reason being, if the holding is dematerialised then the payment usually comes through Crest. The unusual factor here is the US element, which might make it real. However, if other brokers are processing it quickly then it suggests that it is a fob off. Working it…

Hi, Really worthwhile analysis. Thank you for your efforts, the substance of the study is of great value. On the issue of performance, I tend to agree with the comments about accuracy. I started using Bloomberg this year to track my performance, as whilst expensive, this is absolutely a best in class product. The difference to what I thought was an accurate representation using excel…

Morning Graham, I know its not today's news, but if you do get chance it would be great to get your thoughts on Ramsdens Holdings (LON:RFX) results yesterday. A few of us were scratching our heads as to why it was down over 8% during the morning. By the close it was actually up. I think Liberum hosted an investor day and the Investors Chronicle…
