I run, in common with many readers of this website, a semi-automated portfolio of investments that use Stockranks. I also read with interest the ongoing research articles, and in particular the extensive work that Ed shared regarding profit warnings and what to do when a company issues them, linked here But... in trying to incorporate both sets of research into a coherent investment system…

I noticed in one of the discussions on Paul's recent SCVP that there are a couple of telematics businesses on AIM at quite astonishing valuations.Quarter (£QTX) first.Trakm8 (£TRAK) nextI’m interested in part because my brother in law works for a privately held telematics business. We occasionally chat about the market, business development and the link to telecoms generally (the area I work in). His job…

Warren Buffett’s share buyback policy is to purchase stock in Berkshire Hathaway if its common stock falls to or below 120% of its net book value per share.I last bought into Berkshire at £70.78 and sold two years later at £94.28. I’m not sure what the exchange rate was at the time of purchase (April 13) but I remember feeling like I had bought way…

So, an idle look through Stockopedia threw up this little gem - a commercial bank based in Hungary that has the most astonishing set of green lights in terms of financials (for a bank, especially). What’s the catch? Well, OTP had a large number of branches in the Ukraine, and in particular in the Crimean Peninsula that were largely destroyed as a result of the…

Thanks Ed - really useful. @fahimc I had a very similar experience to yourself when creating my Stockrank based system. In my case I experienced a decline of 15% in the first six months. The main lessons I learned were: 1. My original portfolio was too restricted (too few stocks - only 10) which made it volatile. The failure of a small number of stocks,…

Paul apologies, you're quite right. I read the two separate lines on UK and Europe and conflated them. The perils of reading on a mobile... Kelvin

Bestace I think that the high end instruments over the internet will only ever be an incidental part of G4Ms business. They operate a physical shop in York, and will stock and sell there. The same is true of Thomann which has a spectacular German shop cum warehouse. However, it will only make up a minority of sales. So, you are left with commodity items…

Good questions, which I also asked when considering whether to invest (I did). Some personal factors affect my assessment, which may be useful for others. I've played in a number of bands over the years, and am a bit of a magpie when it comes to financial information... so I have data on how much I spend on what sort of musical gear and why…

Hi Paul thanks for the update on Trakm8. I have a bit of background in the telematics industry (see here, and wouldn't invest. I think fair value, once Trakm8 has started to generate reasonable cashflows after capitalised development, is around 3 times revenue (that's c. 140-160p). However, it isn't generating reasonable cashflows yet and I would not be tempted unless/until the price was well…
