I look for UK-listed companies, preferably domiciled in the UK that have an understandable (to me) business that are forecast to grow revenue, profits, earnings and dividends over the next year or more. They must be already profitable and carry at most only moderate debt and be reasonably priced for the growth that they have provided and are forecast to provide. Ideally they will provide a niche offering. I avoid Chinese, Indian, Israeli, etc. companies, loss-making enterprises, blue-sky dreamers and will only very rarely invest in non-dividend paying companies.

Assuming you mean Jarvis Securities (LON:JIM) in which case I entirely agree with you. Revenue +25%, FY17 PTP to be "significantly above current market expectations" and quarterly dividend raised to 6p from 4.25p same period last year. Cracking news.

Hi MH, Many thanks for putting me right. I've never experienced a situation where the ex-date post-dates the record date so a new one for me. So the share price fall yesterday was nothing to do with eligibility to the rights but reaction to the announcement, including the reasons you indicated. Simon.
