Real Name: You don't need to know my real name, do you

Occupation: Analyst

Interests: Commodities, Economics, Emerging Markets, Funds, Geopolitics, Gold, Oil, Stocks

About Me:

I do have a real name. I've been investing actively since December 09. Beyond investing, I'm interested most of all in history, politics and economics, particularly from the Austrian School.

Investment Strategy

I started off with a portfolio heavily biased toward oil exploration and mining. Have made profits overall, but after being tossed around like flotsam over parts of 2010, I'm currently converting the majority of my portfolio to value-chosen stocks, looking to maintain approx 20% in those high-risk growth stocks. No interest in bonds at present, nor derivatives, and am moving to a much longer-term approach.

Just for clarity and to accord with the site's terms of use - this is NOT a request for specific investment advice, I'm just opening up for comments in order to bounce ideas around. I started buying shares in December and consider myself very much a novice. I'm curious for any and all comments on my general buying pattern so…

Hi all, I'm new to these boards :) I'm new to investing and bought in at 238p last week. Not too impressed with myself, firstly for missing it at 200p a few weeks ago when i could have, and then buying in before a big dip. Anyway, I'd like to hear your thoughts on it dipping again below 200p anytime soon? I'd love to sell…

I've been watching this for ages and ACM Shipping (LON:ACMG) for quite a while, but haven't bought as I too see their prices being underpinned by global growth... and I don't have great faith in that at the moment. Nevertheless, I can't look away... the ROE is compelling regardless of the macro picture. Would love to know what others think about it...

Peeps, what about Anglo Pacfic? I know they're not on AIM, but they do look like a tasty value play on mining, although 70% concentrated in Queensland at present... they are ISAable... any thoughts?

Only joking revelho :) Keiser is interesting but a bit... wayward, eh... I make gold a good call. I don't care if I make or lose money on it, it's insurance against monetary disaster, which seems to become more likely every day.

P.S. Norseman Gold (LON:NGL) is not ISA-able ( with TD Waterhouse anyway ), whereas Allied Gold (LON:AGLD) is. Not sure if and when Vatukoula Gold Mines (LON:VGM) will be.

p3dr036, could you say a little more about the attractions of Vatakoula? I bought Medusa Mining (LON:MML) last year at 219p and sold out recently at 420p. Delighted of course but assumed that after such a run-up the price might stall for a while and I'd find better upside elsewhere in gold mining. Haven't fixed on a candidate yet... top 3 seem to be Norseman…
