Occupation: Private Investor, Retired

Location: CHESTER, ENGLAND

About Me:

I am a keen & experienced investor. I love my spread sheets, and like to think that I know what I am doing. I wouldn't be offended to be described as a bit geeky. Mostly I do quite well, but I would like to do a lot better.

Married male. Born 1957 England. Good career in industry for 35 years.

Been successfully investing for about 30 years.

I chose to retire at age 57 to look after my investments.

I consider myself to be quite analytical / logical / mathematical, but also take into account how the world is likely to change & how people behave.

I always follow my processes before taking action. I am a great believer in continuous improvement and spend a great deal of time improving my processes.

Investment Strategy
I trade... weekly
I tend to buy... according to my system
I hold for... a year
Diversification is ... essential to reduce risk
Buy and hold for maximum total return. I prefer growth companies, but don't restrict my investments to that area. I don't need any income from dividends, but like to get it because it can be a significant proportion of total returns.

Can anyone shed any light on why Swallowfield's share price is dropping so rapidly?

Where do your best investment ideas come from? Small Cap Value Reports? Tip Sheets. If so which? Your own screens? Elsewhere? I always put any purchase idea through my thorough process before buying it. I tend to use tip sheets a lot, although I reject the great majority of their tips. I'm pretty handy with using the excellent screens on here. My portfolio significantly beats…

Photo-Me has today released a strong trading update. Here is a flavour of it: "The Group made excellent progress in the financial year, reflecting the success of its strategy of investing in new products, growing its laundry business and favourable currency movements. The photo identification and laundry businesses continued to perform well. The Board expects the financial year ended 30 April 2017 will be in…

This is a very important question! Because trends really do tend to continue. Do you want to invest in trends that are going backwards or forwards?I see three ways to investigate this:1) Sectors / Industries2) Charlie Morris Quadrants from Fleet Street Letter & Money Week Mag3) Stockranks1) I have done a lot of work with Sectors & industries over different time periods. Obviously there are…

The stock market is forward looking. So we have to be forward looking to be successful. So do you think that the result of the forthcoming US election will effect the UK stock market? To what extent will it affect us? What result do you expect? How are you positioning your portfolio for the result that you expect & why? Or is it best to…

Wey Education (LON:WEY) Please can someone advise me whether shareholder approval is generally required in advance of making a placing such as Wey Education has conducted this morning? Is it the rule that they must have agreement from at least 50% of the original shareholders?

I haven't looked at the update but I did some research on ITV a while back. I didn't buy it. I think the main problems are: 1) Worries about them losing their advertising to Google, Facebook etc 2) Rise of Netflix & other competition for viewers 3) Forecast EPS keeps being downgraded 4) Current EPS forecasts are for +5% then +2%. That is hardly any…

Ben, It was a great idea to have an interview with our heroes!Their number of holdings.Do they have any rules about this? What are they? Why do they have them?Do they stick to them?

My question are: 1) Where do they get their best ideas on which companies to investigate for possible share purchases? Eg Results statements, trading updates, their own screens or whatever 2) Why does their preferred method work better for them than possible alternative methods of generating ideas?

Hi Graham I think that one of the most important questions that needs to be answered about Tristel (LON:TSTL) is what Intellectual Property do they hold, if any, on the use of chlorine dioxide? If it is strong & global, then it is not possible for anyone to copy their products without an infringement of their intellectual property. Does anyone know what IP they hold?
