Occupation: Private Investor, Retired

Location: CHESTER, ENGLAND

About Me:

I am a keen & experienced investor. I love my spread sheets, and like to think that I know what I am doing. I wouldn't be offended to be described as a bit geeky. Mostly I do quite well, but I would like to do a lot better.

Married male. Born 1957 England. Good career in industry for 35 years.

Been successfully investing for about 30 years.

I chose to retire at age 57 to look after my investments.

I consider myself to be quite analytical / logical / mathematical, but also take into account how the world is likely to change & how people behave.

I always follow my processes before taking action. I am a great believer in continuous improvement and spend a great deal of time improving my processes.

Investment Strategy
I trade... weekly
I tend to buy... according to my system
I hold for... a year
Diversification is ... essential to reduce risk
Buy and hold for maximum total return. I prefer growth companies, but don't restrict my investments to that area. I don't need any income from dividends, but like to get it because it can be a significant proportion of total returns.

Can anyone shed any light on why Swallowfield's share price is dropping so rapidly?

Where do your best investment ideas come from? Small Cap Value Reports? Tip Sheets. If so which? Your own screens? Elsewhere? I always put any purchase idea through my thorough process before buying it. I tend to use tip sheets a lot, although I reject the great majority of their tips. I'm pretty handy with using the excellent screens on here. My portfolio significantly beats…

Photo-Me has today released a strong trading update. Here is a flavour of it: "The Group made excellent progress in the financial year, reflecting the success of its strategy of investing in new products, growing its laundry business and favourable currency movements. The photo identification and laundry businesses continued to perform well. The Board expects the financial year ended 30 April 2017 will be in…

This is a very important question! Because trends really do tend to continue. Do you want to invest in trends that are going backwards or forwards?I see three ways to investigate this:1) Sectors / Industries2) Charlie Morris Quadrants from Fleet Street Letter & Money Week Mag3) Stockranks1) I have done a lot of work with Sectors & industries over different time periods. Obviously there are…

The stock market is forward looking. So we have to be forward looking to be successful. So do you think that the result of the forthcoming US election will effect the UK stock market? To what extent will it affect us? What result do you expect? How are you positioning your portfolio for the result that you expect & why? Or is it best to…

Yes please comment on Taptica International (LON:TAP). The announcement says that it is to reduce debt. But the Stockreport on here says that they already have $32.6m net cash so I don't get it.

For me today, the daily discrepancy between my portfolio value change as calculated by Stockopedia, and as calculated by my stockbrokers, is as bad as ever. I don't know who's share prices are a better reflection of reality. But, what I do know is that Stockopedia have explained the problem and have put in place measures to deal with it. I have no idea what…

The biggest problem that I have had with all this is that the figure that Stockopedia shows for the day's change in portfolio valuation has become erratic. I use this number at the end of every day in my reporting system and I need the number to be reliable. Every day I cross check Stockopedia's number for portfolio value change against the corresponding numbers from…

Hi JonesJ Do you find that your broker is particularly good for dealing in the shares of smaller companies? If so, please can you tell us in what ways they are so good, and which broker is it?
