Occupation: Private Investor, Retired

About Me:

I am a keen & experienced investor. I love my spread sheets, and like to think that I know what I am doing. I wouldn't be offended to be described as a bit geeky. Mostly I do quite well, but I would like to do a lot better.

Married male. Born 1957 England. Good career in industry for 35 years.

Been successfully investing for about 30 years.

I chose to retire at age 57 to look after my investments.

I consider myself to be quite analytical / logical / mathematical, but also take into account how the world is likely to change & how people behave.

I always follow my processes before taking action. I am a great believer in continuous improvement and spend a great deal of time improving my processes.

Investment Strategy
I trade... monthly
I tend to buy... after much research
I hold for... years
Diversification is ... essential to reduce risk
Buy and hold quality growth companies that will exceed market expectations.

Hello Everybody. I have just been conducting some research on here into which stock ranks have been performing best in the market. I found it interesting, and it occurred to me that others might too. So here we go! Here is what I did. I went on the "Ranks" tab above. Then to "performance" Then I made the following selections: UK, Value Rank, >£100m, Quarterly,…

How or where can I figure out what factors are driving the market recently? Eg exchange rates, risk on or off attitude, interest rates, political events, etc etc. I am not willing to pay for expensive subscriptions for this information. But I would consider a sensible subscription fee. Or I am happy to look in the right places to find out for myself. I find…

Can anyone shed any light on why Swallowfield's share price is dropping so rapidly?

Where do your best investment ideas come from? Small Cap Value Reports? Tip Sheets. If so which? Your own screens? Elsewhere? I always put any purchase idea through my thorough process before buying it. I tend to use tip sheets a lot, although I reject the great majority of their tips. I'm pretty handy with using the excellent screens on here. My portfolio significantly beats…

Photo-Me has today released a strong trading update. Here is a flavour of it: "The Group made excellent progress in the financial year, reflecting the success of its strategy of investing in new products, growing its laundry business and favourable currency movements. The photo identification and laundry businesses continued to perform well. The Board expects the financial year ended 30 April 2017 will be in…

Please can you tell us the purpose of including negative one month relative strength in the screen?

Hi InvestorJohn   I find Barclays stock brokers quite good for this. You don't have to have an account with them. Paste this into your browser Then search by company name. Then look at the bottom under "company information" and "Director Deals"

With regard to development spending at accesso Technology (LON:ACSO) Paul Scott says above "Once development spend is completed, then profits could flow". The problem is that, like with many technology companies, development spend will never be completed! There will always be another exciting development project. The best outcome that we could possibly hope for would be that development spending decreases as a percentage of profits…

Thanks Nick, That's a relief! The way that I normally deal with this question is to exclude all shares with a Highly Speculative risk rating from my screens.

Hi Nick Thanks for an interesting piece of work. I tend to invest in High Flyers and would like to make my portfolio more resilient, preferably without sacrificing any performance in the good times. Would you consider the use of Stockopedia Risk Ratings to achieve this? Stockopedia say that "We have designed the RiskRatings to be both a useful predictive measure of future volatility, but…
