Wall Street staged a broad rally on Monday, extending Friday's huge gains. Big
momentum tech stocks like Amazon and Netflix, and consumer cyclicals powered
the advance. Nikko Asset Management Chief Global Strategist John Vail.

Well it might be, just like you said, a carry-on from Friday that people over
the weekend saw the market rise and decided that things weren't as bad as they
thought they were previously.

Investors heard encouraging words about trade talks and got a mixed picture on
services. US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said the US and China were likely
to reach a good settlement on immediate trade issues. Separately, the growth
of US service industry slowed in December but new orders rose slightly. Loxo
Oncology shares soared after Eli Lilly said it would buy the cancer drug
developer for about $8 billion. Dollar Tree jumped. Activist-investor
Starboard Value urged the discount retailer to sell its underperforming Family
Dollar business and replace the majority of its board. PG&E shares dragged
down utilities. Reuters learned the company is considering filing for
bankruptcy protection for some or all of its business. European markets
retreated amid lingering worries about the Eurozone economy
