As we walked into the main hangar-like manufacturing workshop which contains the Chesterfield Special Cylinders operation, John Hayward, Chief Executive of Pressure Technologies, took me to one side and asked me a question: “How old do you think these cylinders are?” At a guess, I would have said thirty years, I replied. “Well” he chirped, “they were built by us and put into operation by our customer in the 1930’s. They saw ‘active service’ during the Second World War - They’ve recently come back to us for refurbishment”. So it comes as no surprise that Pressure Technologies can trace its origins back to 1897 when, its now largest subsidiary, Chesterfield Special Cylinders was formed.
