BUZZ--European luxury: Growth in tourism spending may attract investor attention - UBS

Thu 16th January, 2020 12:43pm
** UBS says rising tourist spending in December is a
positive read-across to the luxury sector, suggesting that lost
sales in Hong Kong are being largely offset at a global level
** Tourist spending in December was up 18.5% year-on-year
across Europe, showing the strongest growth rate in over 2.5
years, UBS says, citing VAT refund provider Planet
** "We believe that this positive data point may attract
investor attention as we head into FY reporting season," UBS
says
** The brokerage says December growth was driven by strong
spendings of Americans and the Chinese
** Luxury spend includes a number of points of sale for
brands such as biggest high-fashion brands like Chanel, Gucci,
Dior DIOR.PA , Louis Vuitton LVMH.PA , Omega, Bottega Veneta,
Saint Laurent, Valentino, Versace and Tom Ford
** The brokerage continues to favour LVMH and Kering
PRTP.PA while sees risks on the hard luxury names urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL8N29J2IH
