Description: U.S. stocks indexes struggled to make headway as gains in
healthcare and megacap technology stocks offset losses in energy and other
economically sensitive sectors amid growing recession fears. In a second day
of testimony, U.S. central bank chief Jerome Powell said the Federal Reserve's
commitment to reining in 40-year-high inflation is "unconditional" but also
comes with the risk of higher unemployment. Fed officials James Bullard and
Mary Daly are due to speak on Friday, and the IMF will deliver its latest
assessment of the U.S. economy.
