ISTANBUL, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and
events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Monday.
    The lira  TRYTOM=D3   TRY=  stood at 7.3700 against the U.S.
dollar at 0432 GMT, slightly weaker than Friday's close of
7.3650. On Friday, it touched a record low of 7.3875 against the
greenback.
    The main BIST 100 share index  .XU100  fell 1.49% to
1,083.83 on Friday.
    
    GLOBAL MARKETS
    Asian shares firmed toward recent peaks on Monday as Chinese
markets swung higher, while investors waited to see if the
recent sell-off in longer-dated U.S. Treasuries would extend and
maybe take some pressure off the beleaguered dollar.

    President Tayyip Erdogan will meet with Kyrgyz parliament

    CORONAVIRUS
    The number of people who have died from COVID-19 in Turkey
rose by 19 on Sunday to 5,974, Health Ministry data showed. The
overall number of cases rose by 1,192 to 249,309, the data
showed, with 230,969 recovered from the virus.
    Turkey's coronavirus count rose on Saturday to its highest
daily level since June, with total deaths nearing 6,000,
according to the government, which rolled out new inspection and

    EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN
    Turkey drew another rebuke from the European Union on Sunday
when it said its Yavuz energy drill ship would extend operations
in disputed Mediterranean waters off Cyprus until mid-September.

     Erdogan said on Saturday Turkey will not back down to
threats of sanctions nor to incursions on its claimed territory
