BUZZ-India's Bharti Airtel rises as Q4 metrics 'surprise

** India's top mobile carrier Bharti Airtel Ltd's shares
 BRTI.NS  up as much as 4.71 pct to 425.40 rupees, their highest
in nearly a month
    ** Stock is top pct gainer on NSE index  .NSEI 
    ** Co's Q4 profit plunged 77.8 pct to 829 mln rupees ($12.43
mln), hurt by continued pricing pressure in the telecoms sector
after the entry of an upstart rival in 2016*:nL3N1S151C
    ** Analysts, however, seem impressed with co's metrics;
Nomura analysts say Q4 operating performance was resilient
relative to expectations as mobile business metrics not too bad
    ** Co has "solidly defended its market share and has the
spectrum, capacity and willingness to invest," UBS analysts said
in a note, maintaining PT of 560 rupees with rating "buy". UBS
had expected the mobile carrier to post Q4 loss of 2.2 bln
    ** Stiff cost rationalization across businesses helped co
avoid reporting net loss in qtr - Kotak Institutional Equities
    ** Separately, the company also approved the merger of Indus
Towers Ltd with its mobile masts operator unit Bharti Infratel
Ltd  BHRI.NS , creating the largest tower company outside China
by number of towers*:nL3N1S21LZ
    ** At least 24 of 31 brokerages rate the stock "buy" or
higher, four "hold" and three "sell" or lower; their median PT
is 560 rupees
    ** Up to Tuesday's close, stock down 23.3 pct this year
