BUZZ-PREVIEW-H&M: Analysts warn of difficult end-year but see overall resilience

Wed 27th January, 2021 1:10pm
** Analysts expect Swedish fashion retailer H&M's HMb.ST
Q4 results on Jan. 29 to reflect its resilient business model
but flag a difficult end of 2020 amid restrictions implemented
in several countries
** Barclays ("overweight"), RBC ("sector perform") and
Jefferies ("hold") say lockdowns especially in Germany, H&M's
largest market, may impact the company's year-end figures
** Jefferies adds that clean exit from the Autumn/Winter
season may be challenged by store restrictions and clearance
** RBC, on the other hand, expects H&M to slightly benefit
from the earlier timings of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales
compared to the previous year
** Citi ("buy") adds it sees the overall result in Q4 to
reflect the path of transition H&M has been on pre-COVID
** According to Barclays, the group is well positioned in
the current environment thanks to its attractive omnichannel
strategy, lower price positioning and more basic product
** "We see further potential as a successful execution in
the transformation plan implies multi-year upside potential for
the top line and earnings," Bryan Garnier ("buy") says
** H&M reported Q4 sales on Dec. 15 broadly in line with
market expectations*:nL8N2IV171
** On the same day, Spanish rival Inditex ITX.MC posted Q3
net profit of EUR 866 mln, in line with a Q2 profit rebound, but
down 26% year-on-year*:nL8N2IV1HL
