Turkey - Factors to Watch on Sept 16

ISTANBUL, Sept 16 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and 
events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Tuesday. 
    The lira  TRYTOM=D3  was almost steady at 2.2120 against the 
dollar by 0443 GMT from 2.2133 late on Monday. 
    Istanbul's main share index  .XU100  rose 0.12 percent to 
77,918.10 on Monday, compared with a 0.65 percent drop in the 
emerging markets index  .MSCIEF . 
    The benchmark 10-year government bond yield  tTR240724T0=IS  
fell to 9.27 percent from a previous close of 9.30 percent. 
                 
    GLOBAL MARKETS 
    Asian shares held near one-month lows on Tuesday as 
investors braced for a possible hawkish shift in the U.S. 
Federal Reserve's policy stance as the Fed begins a two-day 
policy meeting later in the day. 
    U.S. crude  CLc1  edged down about 0.1 percent to $92.79 a 
barrel, pressured by the weekend data from China that cast doubt 
on the strength of global demand. On Monday, the expiring Brent 
 LCOc1  contract for October dropped to its price since July 
2012, while the new front-month contract added 0.2 percent in

    TURKEY WEIGHS UP "BUFFER ZONE" AGAINST IRAQ, SYRIA THREATS 
    Turkey's military is drawing up plans for a possible "buffer 
zone" on the country's southern border, where it faces a threat 
from Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, Turkish media 
quoted President Tayyip Erdogan as saying on Monday.

    Shares in Turkish Islamic lender Bank Asya  ASYAB.IS  fell 
20 percent to 0.99 lira on Monday, extending earlier losses, as 
trading resumed after a suspension of more than a month.

    Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said on Monday that 
Qatar has agreed to send 1.2 billion cubic metres (bcm) of 
liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Turkey during the winter months
