Could anyone please help?
I am considering purchasing some European shares, mostly fairly small companies, all 'Super Stocks'. My Share Platform is provided by Hargreaves Lansdown, and I had not expected to encounter difficulties.
However HL tells me it does not deal at all with countries such as Poland, Greece, Romania etc.
And then smaller companies even from substantial economies such as Germany, France and Holland may well not be available either.
So how does one buy shares in European smaller companies?
You can buy smaller companies from Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria and Ireland with an IG share dealing account, with a much lower fx charge than HL, but not from the rest of Europe. I hold £M7U and £HOLCO in my stockranks ISA.
With their leveraged accounts (I only have CFD, I assume spread-betting is similar), you can buy smaller companies from at least some other European markets within the Eurozone, unless they are really small, in which case they may be inelligible for leveraged trading with IG. I hold £BIG from France like this, but was unable to buy £ESY from Germany for example. I have no idea if you can buy non-Eurozone stocks like this, haven't tried!
In my SIPP I simply hold Henderson European smaller companies fund for easy exposure to a wide range of Euro smaller companies.
