I would love to find a software programme or website which will help me to see the 'big picture' of my financial situation. Not just the equitites but other things such as premium bonds, rental property, savings - something that will help me to see, like in a pie chart say, the balance of these different elements - and also will help me to see how much they are growing month by month or year by year - how well I have done, or how much I have lost. I would also like an easy way to know that I've grown my portfolio by 15% last year.. and not sure how! Mind you, I don't have an accounting background, so this may seem obvious to some of you - it isn't to me. I want a bigger picture - and don't want to reinvent the wheel so wonder if some software exists out there others have used and can suggest to me for this purpose? Thanks, in advance, for pointing me in the right direction.
I use Excel to track my equity and fund investments. One row per stock, number held, todays price, value, how much I invested, dividends received, profit or loss etc. Totals of relevant columns plus compare value now with what it was at 1st jan showing % gain or loss.
You can add further rows for other investments like bonds or banks and do some calculations to show how much is invested in each category. Excel is very adaptable so you can manipulate data as you want. Only issue is sourcing the data and mostly, manually entering changes. Whatever software you use, sourcing data is always likely to be a chore so to start with, you may want to play with something simple to understand what information you need and what you can do without.
