I am a reasonably experienced investor. I currently invest  for growth with a self-select portfolio in small cap equities and IT's .

I am now considering investing for income in £City of London Investment Trust which is showing around 5% dividend yield @ current share price  But looking at their profile on Stockopedia I note that in 2016 the number of shares was 319m and in 2021 is 426m . This is a 33% increase in the number shares.

Am I correct in equating this to an equivalent similar dilution of share value over the 5 year period, or am I missing something?
