With our latest release, you can now more easily tap into the wisdom of the whole Stockopedia community to source investing ideas. In addition, we’ve made changes to help you explore a wider range of editorial content, and introduced a new metric for you to use in tables when analysing or comparing stocks.

Most Popular StockReports Homepage Widget

On the Stockopedia homepage, you’ll now see a new widget showing you the most popular StockReports from that day or over the last week. If you’re wondering where to start your investment research today, this new Popular StockReports widget offers you a curated selection of reports that have received significant attention from our community. These reports can serve as an excellent starting point for your investment exploration.

During our development and testing, we found that it provides a handy shortcut to finding stocks with impactful news that day. News can offer a potential signal about a stock’s near-term prospects, and this feature saves you valuable time in identifying stocks that have released especially significant updates that day.

Here's how it works:

If you have your focus mode set to UK or Europe: This widget will rank the most viewed StockReports daily and over the last week. This feature taps into the deep expertise of our community. For example, we have seen that the daily list often acts as a quick shortcut to help you find interesting stocks with important and impactful news on any given day.
If you have your focus mode set to the US or Australasia: Due to fewer users in these specific regions, we will display data for the most popular stock reports from the last week.
If you have your focus mode set to Canada, India, or Developed Asia: We are actively working on gathering data for these regions and hope to include them in this feature in the future.

We hope that this enhancement will provide you with a source of community-led ideas and ensure that you're always up-to-date with the most popular stocks among private investors in your market.

Rusty - if you're on the homepage, it should be below the usual 'Advancers' & 'Decliners' list - which IIRC defaults to the 5 biggest on the FTSE All-Share

Yes I know about the Homepage but I'm talking about in my folios and on my screens, it says you can see the weekly price movement for each stock.

Select "customise" and search for "price change (1 week)".

You can add this metric to your tables by customising the columns. You will find the weekly price change in the quotes area, as highlighted below:

OK, thanks, set it up now. But on my screens, for Card Factory (LON:CARD) it has price change % week +7.75% and -4.7 % change (1 week)

Yes, the Absolute Price Change (1w) metric, found in the Momentum section of ratios, uses the previous close price and is calculated daily along with all the other ratios.

The new metric you have added to your table includes the latest quote so will reflect today's movement, which in Card's case incorporates today's c10% fall.

These were both on my screen not folio, not under Momentum, both columns are on the same screen.
Both are new columns.

I second the request for more folios, that must be one of the most requested things on Stockopedia.

Hi Oliver. Please can you tell me whether or not the following is correct?

It is not possible to set the screening criteria to be based on the latest quote. It has to be based on the previous days closing price, even hours after the end of the current days trading. But it is possible to customise the headings in the table to show the percent share price change for 1 week based on the latest quote which is updated every 15 minutes.

Yes, your interpretation is correct.

Within screen rules, the Absolute Price Change (for any period return) is calculated overnight at the same time as all the other ratios like P/E etc and will use the latest close price as of calculation. Whilst I can appreciate the value of a screener that uses the latest quotes to dynamically calculate the ratios, this is not something that we are currently able to provide.

As you say, you can however add the 1 week price change (using quote) to your tables for referencing, but not screening.

I suspect this may be most useful as a contraction tool: i.e. to avoid the hot stocks that everyone is already invested in. It will also be heavily influenced by the most notable regulatory news announcements of the day/week. But interesting all the same!

Avoid the most talked about stocks. Look at Boohoo (LON:BOO) a while ago, most posted about stock on Stockopedia, shares went down about 90%.

Morning Rusty - Were Boohoo (LON:BOO) discussed most as perhaps they were rumoured to have produced a black tulip, are the a Dot.com business or perhaps they are even developers of AI.

Hi Ezelifeme. Following the crowd, or being ahead of it, is not a black or white kind of thing. If someone is following the crowd, and they wait until 90% of the crowd have made the trade, then that person will probably not do well. But looking at which shares are the most investigated on Stockopedia is a different matter. Stockopedia subscribers tend to be better informed and maybe smarter or more experienced than general punters. And I guess that Stockopedia subscribers would be less than 1% of investors. So it might well be that deciding to investigate for oneself the shares that are most investigated by Stockopedia subscribers might be a good idea in terms of being ahead of the crowd. However, there are other things to consider such as 1) Just because Stocko subscribers read the Stockreport, it does not mean that they bought or sold the share. ( I myself will read about ten times more stockreports than I trade.) 2) It is still necessary to investigate the share in question and to decide whether or not you should trade it at the current price.

So overall, the best way to succeed is to be well ahead of most of the crowd, and also to make good trading decisions most of the time. It's far easier said than done, and there are no easy, quick and reliable ways of doing it.

A couple of years ago in Spain I was watching a field full of tinies playing soccer. Their field discipline was astonishing, all held formation. In contrast British kids of the same age just consist of a rabble following the ball round the pitch.

This most viewed feature is a proxy for who has been in the news or tipped in the papers recently. People are looking at what they have seen mentioned. A useful refinement would be to exclude any company who has issued an RNS or has been mentioned in SCVR in the past week. That might show what people were researching unprompted.
