I have been a full time trader for just over 3 years now, coming from a Data Analyst role in marketing. In that time i have developed my own software which found success in purely trading/investing the charts; with the theory somewhat been if the chart is showing all the correct repeating signs and patterns, other people have done the hard work of properly researching the company and I am simply attaching myself to the “smart money”. With my defined strict algorithm approach to trading - I have never really entertained the idea of trading the tips / recommendations and comments from magazines or bulletin boards. I do of course ponder over them to see what others may be thinking, but know that it can become a very bad habit if you break your rules to trade something out of it.
Which got me on to thinking, how good are the comments I read here on Stockopedia? And how successful would a fund be if the top commentators came together to make a fund? These questions lead me to the Stockopedia Fantasy Funds - something which I believe is really a hidden gem of a great website. If you haven’t set one up yet, it’s a fictional fund where people can track their current trades or test out new theory’s.
After researching the active traders, reading how they comment on the discussion board, and looking at their fund performance I have made a list of the Top 20 users. With these top performers - I went on to make the “Wednesday Fund” - which trades the collective sentiment of the group.

Now, I have my cooking sauce, I have the ongoing transactions of the traders who have shown success. Obviously, if these people forget or don’t update their funds, then this potentially would damage my trading account so I have taken this into account in the rules and have treated the collective data as somewhat missing/incorrect.

I like the idea. It's not a problem that you're using my fund as one of the inputs but I doubt if (m)any of my selections will get into the fund as I tend to pick quite obscure non-uk stocks.
