Mark has been interviewed by Stocko a couple of times and from some of the comments on various threads there appears to be a few of us using his methods to trade the U.K stock market. I thought it would be useful to have a dedicated thread where we can discuss how well its working.
Personally I have been in cash at least 50% since the end of May and at 95-100% since early October. Getting out of stocks as they roll over has protected me from any real damage.
I'm struggling to find many setups I want to buy so I am developing my "sit out power"
How is everyone else doing?
Hi Herbie,
I’m no Minervini trading expert, but it is not necessarily short term. He holds them while they are rising. Then often top slices to take profits before finally closing out. He has a close trailing stop of only 7-10% but may bail before that if he feels it’s going the wrong way. His philosophy is the are no good or bad stocks, only stocks that are rising and stocks that are not. He only wants to hold stocks that are rising.
The good thing is (in a good market) with profit targets of say 20-25% and stop losses of 7-10% a 50% success rate will provide a healthy profit and anything above this is obviously a good bonus.
That’s why he waits for the right market conditions. I’m still reading his first book though. Mainly learning from his technique for timing the buys.
I still have a passive portfolio, but I’ve allocated some funds to try trading using his methods.
