I was trying out a test screen for dividend stocks (super stocks ranked by dividend yield if you're interested) and displayed the % 5 yr avg Weiss number. The value for Galliford try is 80.96. 80.96% of what? Or is that 80.96 of what? The help text suggest that higher is better so this is supposedly very, very much better, but better in what way?
It is supposed to represent the 5 year average dividend yield - which you / the screen would normally compare with the current yield to see if the shares were offering value. You can see the Dividend Yield Range Chart above the Analysts consensus which shows very high yields historically.
In this case you can ignore it as they sold off their housebuilding division and had a share price consolidation (something like a 10 for 1 from memory) which makes those historic indicated dividends / yields a nonsense in this case as they have not, I think, been adjusted for the consolidation. Hope this helps - Jamie.
