EU clears acquisition of Spanish parking operator Saba by Interparking

BRUSSELS, June 16 (Reuters) - The European Commission said in a statement on Monday it had approved the acquisition of Spanish parking operator Saba Infraestructuras by Interparking of Belgium.

The Commission said that the transaction would not raise competition concerns, given its limited impact on competition in the markets where the companies are active.

The companies - which had been in talks to combine their businesses into a major European player since November 2022 - announced plans to merge in October but did not disclose the transaction's value.

They said that Belgian insurer AG's AGES.BR property subsidiary was set to remain the new group's majority and controlling shareholder, alongside Dutch pension fund APG and Spanish holding company Criteria. Criteria is La Caixa foundation's investment arm and the biggest shareholder in lender Caixabank CABK.MC.

Interparking Group will remain headquartered in Brussels. The combined entity will operate over 2,000 car parks in 16 countries and 600 cities, Interparking said on its website.
