US chipmaker Qualcomm agreed to buy semiconductor firm Alphawave for about $2.4 billion on Monday. It's a strategic buy for Qualcomm as it tries to strengthen its AI technology. Alphawave is the latest British firm to be bought up in a market hit by low valuations and stunted growth. The announcement sent Alphawave shares up almost a quarter. Shareholders will receive a near 96% premium to the March 31 closing price immediately before Qualcomm disclosed its interest. Analysts said they don't expect the deal to meet any material regulatory obstacles. Alphawave designs semiconductor tech for data centers, networking, and storage.
