* A scrap metal joint venture between aluminium giant China
Hongqiao Group 1378.HK and Germany's Scholz will include
facilities to recycle up to 50,000 tonnes a year of lithium-ion
batteries, Scholz parent Chiho Environmental Group said.
* The JV in Hongqiao's home city of Binzhou, in eastern
China, was
designed to process 500,000 tonnes per year of aluminium scrap,
with operations to start by end-2021, as well as 100,000
end-of-life vehicles from June 2022. urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL1N2MY14H
* "The project has ... been further extended to include the
construction of a recycling facility for electric vehicle
lithium-ion batteries," Chiho 0976.HK said in a filing on
Thursday, without adding when the line would start up.
* Hongqiao is pursuing greater use of scrap aluminium to
reduce
its environmental footprint as China, the world's top aluminium
consumer and biggest EV market, aims to peak carbon emissions by
2030.
