Brits flock to summer sun in July weather washout
§ While overall passenger numbers remain below pre-pandemic levels, 7.6
million people travelled through Heathrow in July, averaging nearly a quarter
of a million passengers a day
§ With poor weather in Britain over July, Brits raced to get some summer sun.
Over 73,000 passengers flew to Turkey in July, the busiest month ever for the
destination. Departures to Gibraltar, Portugal and Italy have also all been
close to record levels, proving popular destinations for sun seekers
§ The Big Apple tops the charts as the most popular destination, with
passengers taking advantage of the 31 daily flights from Heathrow to New York.
The Airports Council International recently named Heathrow the "best connected
European airport" to North America
§ It has been a strong start to the summer season for passenger service. With
security queues consistently under five minutes, passengers can travel
stress-free and enjoy more than 300 retail and food and beverage options at
Heathrow
§ Heathrow remains one of very few international airports serving more than
100 long haul routes, opening up a world of opportunity for people, cargo and
business to fly across the globe in a single stop
§ Heathrow continues to work closely with our airline partners to add more
routes and frequencies to our network. This October will see British Airways
services to Riga and Belgrade commence, whilst Virgin will connect to Dubai
after a four-year hiatus. Lufthansa will start serving Salzburg and
Friedrichshafen in time for Christmas festivities
Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye said:
"It's great to see so many passengers getting away to grab some summer sun.
We've got a great range of popular destinations and our teams are delivering
excellent service which will ensure your travels get off to the best start."
