ATHENS, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Eurobank EURBr.AT, Greece's largest lender by market value, on Thursday reported a 9% drop in nine-month net profit from a year earlier due to one-off costs and a lower net interest margin.
Net profit in the January-to-September period was 1.03 billion euros ($1.20 billion), reflecting a 58-million-euro negative goodwill from an insurance acquisition in Cyprus and a tighter interest margin on lower euro zone interest rates.
The bank's net interest margin dropped to 2.49% from 2.81%.
The overall results were better than expected, Chief Executive Fokion Karavias said in a statement.
"On November 12, we are distributing an interim dividend of 4.7 cents per share and, for the year, the overall payout will be more than 50% of profits."
Eurobank, which also operates in Bulgaria and Cyprus, said net interest income rose 4% year-on-year to 1.9 billion euros while its non-performing loan exposure (NPE) ratio dropped to 2.8% from 2.9% a year earlier.
Net fees jumped 23.7% to 557 million euros, mainly boosted by network activities and its wealth management business.
