LONDON, July 22 (Reuters) - Germany's European Energy
Exchange (EEX) has published its European Union carbon permit
auction calendar for next year, it said on Thursday.
The EU's Emissions Trading Scheme caps carbon emissions on
industrial and power plants across the 27-nation bloc and
governments are allowed to sell a certain number of carbon
permits each year.
As power generators operating under the ETS no longer
receive most of their carbon permits for free, the bulk are
auctioned.
EEX is the common platform for auctioning carbon permits on
behalf of 25 member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
It also holds auctions for Poland and Germany separately.
EEX said 412,953,000 permits will be auctioned on behalf of
EU members states next year; 112,944,500 on behalf of Germany
and 75,324,500 on behalf of Poland.
The exchange also revised its 2021 auction volume calendar
from September to December this year, taking into account the
total number of permits in circulation as of May this year.
"Auctions of EU aviation allowances are not scheduled yet
for 2022 and will be added to the 2022 calendar at a later
date," the exchange added.
