Wall Street gave up gains made earlier on Thursday as a contraction in
manufacturing activity last month clouded data showing a mild easing in
inflation and solid consumer spending, while a fall in Salesforce shares dragged
the Dow lower.  .N 
    At 11:17 ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was down 1.10% at
34,208.97. The S&P 500  .SPX  was down 0.42% at 4,063.09 and the Nasdaq
Composite  .IXIC  was down 0.22% at 11,442.784.
