TOKYO, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Kyushu Electric Power Co Inc
9508.T has shut the No.1 reactor at its Sendai nuclear power
station in southern Japan for maintenance and refuelling after
restarting the No.4 reactor at its Genkai nuclear power station,
a spokesperson said on Friday.
The utility shut Sendai's 890 megawatt (MW) No.1 reactor on
Thursday and plans to reboot it in mid-May, he said.
On Feb. 7, Kyushu Electric restarted the 1,180 MW No.4
reactor in Genkai in southern Japan after shutting it in
September for scheduled maintenance including mandatory upgrades
to protect against attacks and serious accidents.
Meanwhile, Kansai Electric Power Co 9503.T automatically
shut down the 870 MW No. 4 reactor at its Takahama nuclear power
station in western Japan on Jan. 30.
The company is investigating the cause of the shutdown,
including a possible glitch related to control rod drive system,
a company spokesperson said, adding it is unclear when the
reactor will come back on line.
With the shutdowns and the restart, Japan has eight
operating reactors with a capacity of 8,196 MW.
Many of Japan's reactors are still going through a
relicensing process under safety standards imposed after the
Fukushima disaster.
Nine regional power utilities and a wholesaler Japan Atomic
Power Co (Japco) now have 33 reactors available for commercial
use, with combined capacity of 33,083 MW.
The companies had 54 reactors operating before the Fukushima
disaster.
The table below shows the status of Japan's nuclear power
plants.
The regional utilities are: Chubu Electric Power 9502.T ,
Chugoku Electric Power 9504.T , Hokkaido Electric Power
