TOKYO, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Japan's Kansai Electric Power Co
Inc 9503.T has shut the No.3 reactor at its Ohi nuclear power
plant in western Japan for maintenance, and has restarted the
No.3 reactor at its Mihama nuclear power plant in western Japan,
a spokesperson said on Tuesday.
The utility shut the 1,180 megawatt (MW) No.3 reactor at Ohi
on Aug. 23, with a plan to resume operations in mid-January next
year.
The company restarted the 826 MW No.3 reactor at Mihama on
Tuesday after shutting it down last October for maintenance and
refuelling.
The restart has been delayed from an earlier plan of Aug. 10
due to a water leak containing a small amount of radioactive
substances in the building and a drop in the pressure of the
tank that stores cooled water, but the company has fixed these
glitches, the spokesperson said.
With the restart and the shutdown of the units, Japan has
seven operating reactors with a capacity of 6,726 MW.
Many of Japan's reactors are still going through a
relicensing process under safety standards imposed after the
2011 Fukushima disaster.
Nine regional power utilities and a wholesaler, Japan Atomic
Power Co (Japco), now have 33 reactors available for commercial
use, with a combined generating capacity of 33,083 MW.
The companies had 54 reactors operating before the Fukushima
disaster.
The table below shows the status of Japan's nuclear power
plants.
The regional utilities are: Chubu Electric Power 9502.T ,
Chugoku Electric Power 9504.T , Hokkaido Electric Power
