    THE GLOBE AND MAIL
    ** The Competition Bureau has expanded its appeal of the
Competition Tribunal's decision giving the go-ahead to Rogers
Communications Inc's  RCIb.TO  proposed $20-billion takeover of
Shaw Communications Inc  SJRb.TO , adding two claims of legal
error to its initial arguments.
    ** First Quantum Minerals  FM.TO  and the government of
Panama are at loggerheads over hundreds of millions of dollars
in royalties the Canadian copper miner is expected to pay from
2026 onward, with the two sides unable to agree on the treatment
of tax credits.
    NATIONAL POST
    ** Montreal-based Nuvei Corp  NVEI.TO  will acquire rival
payments company Paya Holdings Inc  PAYA.O  for $1.3 billion
showing that dealmaking continues even as inflation and other
headwinds heighten worries of a recession.
    ** A group comprising members of Canaccord Genuity Group
Inc's  CF.TO  management team is proposing to take over the
company with an all-cash bid worth about $1.127 billion
