Poland - Factors to Watch May 28

WARSAW, May 28 (Reuters) - The following are significant news stories, press reports and events on Wednesday. ALL TIMES GMT (Poland: GMT + 2 hours):

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

The candidate from Poland's ruling Civic Coalition (KO), Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, leads nationalist Karol Nawrocki in popularity ahead of Sunday's second round of the presidential election, a poll by Opinia24 for private radio RMF FM showed on Wednesday.

According to the poll, Trzaskowski would get 47.5% support and Nawrocki 45.9%, while 6.6%% were undecided.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION ABROAD

As many as 670,000 voters have registered for the second round of Poland's presidential election abroad, Gazeta Wyborcza daily reported. The largest number of Poles will vote in Great Britain, Germany and the United States.

S&P

The Polish government's willingness to reign in a bloated deficit may be sapped by the fear of losing elections, S&P's expert on Central/Eastern Europe said on Tuesday, amid political polarisation in the country.

CITI HANDLOWY

Poland's Citi Handlowy BHW.WA announced late on Tuesday that it has established new strategic development directions for the years 2025 through 2027, on the condition that an agreement to sell its consumer business to VeloBank is sealed.

PGE

Poland's biggest energy utility PGE PGE.WA reported a first-quarter recurring core profit of 4.33 billion zlotys ($1.16 billion) on Tuesday, up 71% on the year, primarily due to lower CO2 emission costs and regulatory revenue gains.

DEBT

On Wednesday, the Polish Ministry of Finance will hold an auction during which it will offer bonds worth 6.0-9.0 billion zlotys (1.60 billion-$2.39 billion).
