ATHENS, June 28 (Reuters) - The European Central Bank
has issued a universal banking licence to snappi, a Greek
digital bank and joint venture of Piraeus Financial Holdings and
fintech firm Natech, snappi said on Friday.
With the full banking licence, snappi can offer a
comprehensive range of banking activities, including accepting
deposits and offering loans, it said in a statement.
Piraeus Financial Holdings is the parent company of Greece's
Pireaus Bank BOPr.AT .
"This is a significant step in the bank's development and
marks a new era in snappi’s journey to become part of the new
banking landscape in Europe, starting from Ioannina, Greece,"
said Christos Megalou, Chairman of snappi’s Board of Directors
and CEO of Piraeus Bank.
"As a fully licensed institution, our goal is to serve our
clients and society by offering innovative digital products."
