POLITICS
Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was
re-admitted to hospital in Milan for a scheduled medical checkup
on Friday, just weeks after being discharged following a long
stay.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Sunday during
a visit to Tunisia that there was "an important window of
opportunity" to finalise an aid agreement between the European
Union and the north African country before the European Council
at the end of June. Under the aid agreement, the EU could loan
Tunisia over 1 billion euros, with most of the funds contingent
on Tunis agreeing painful economic reforms.
ECONOMY
Bank of Italy releases April data on Italian residents
deposits with domestic banks, banks lending to non-financial
companies and gross bad loans at Italian banks.
DEBT
Demand for the 4-year BTP Valore note reached 18.2 billion
euros in last day of offer, Bourse data showed on Friday, a
record for a bond reserved for retail investors only.
COMPANIES
TELECOM ITALIA TLIT.MI
U.S. fund KKR KKR.N strengthened its lead in the race to
secure the landline grid of Telecom Italia (TIM) when it offered
to raise its bid by up to or over 2 billion euros ($2.2
billion), two people with knowledge of the matter said.
The value of KKR's offer could top 23 billion euros overall,
widening the gap with a rival proposal by a consortium
comprising Italian state lender CDP and Australian fund
Macquarie MQG.AX . CDP CEO Dario Scannapieco said on Saturday
negotiations would probably last "longer than one imagines,"
Italian media reported.
Top investor Vivendi wants TIM's board to reject also the
improved offers, a source close to the French company said.
ENEL ENEI.MI , IREN IREE.MI
Enel's new chief executive plans to include Gianni Armani,
the head of smaller utility Iren, in his management team,
Italian media reported on Sunday. The media reported citing
rumours that Armani would have a flagship role involving grids
and innovation, adding that Stefano Siragusa was the main
candidate to replace him at Iren.
SNAM SRG.MI
Italian gas grid operator has picked Rothschild & Co. and
Societe Generale to advise on a potential purchase of Edison's
EDNn.MI gas storage assets, two sources close to the matter
said on Friday.
FERRARI RACE.MI
Ferrari won the centenary edition of 24 Hours of Le Mans
after a late pitstop drama on Sunday to take Maranello's first
overall victory in 58 years and deny Toyota a sixth successive
triumph in the world's oldest active endurance race.
