Swiss stocks - Factors to watch on December 22

ZURICH/BERLIN, Dec 22(Reuters) - The Swiss blue-chip SMI
 .SSMI  was seen opening 0.3% higher at 10,333 points on
Tuesday, according to premarket indications by bank Julius Baer
 JBPRE01 .
    Here are some of the main factors that may affect Swiss
stocks on Tuesday:
    
    CORONAVIRUS
    The World Health Organization cautioned against major alarm
over a new, highly infectious variant of the coronavirus that
has emerged in Britain, saying this was a normal part of a

    The European Union geared up to start mass vaccinations
against COVID-19 just after Christmas after the shot developed
by Pfizer  PFE.N  and its German partner BioNTech  22UAy.DE

    Having secured a green light from the European Medicines
Agency (EMA), the European Commission gave final approval on
Monday evening to the EU's first COVID-19 vaccine.

    * Swiss Steel Holding  STLN.S  says its board appointed
Frank Koch as chief executive officer of the group, effective
January 1, 2022. 
    Separately, the company announced the terms of a planned

    * Baloise Holding  BALN.S  said 2019/20 gross rental income
