Italy - Factors to watch on July 20

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Monday.

POLITICS
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in an interview with Corriere della Sera on Sunday that the punishment given to jeweller Mario Roggero for killing two robbers outside his shop is disproportionate. 
Italy's ruling parties last week called for a presidential pardon for Roggero after he was sentenced to more than 14 years in a case that has divided Italy.
      
     
COMPANIES
TELECOM ITALIA TLIT.MI, POSTE ITALIANE PST.MI
TIM's board on Saturday unanimously approved Poste Italiane's voluntary public tender and exchange offer for all of the company's shares.
The acceptance period for the offer will start on Monday and will run until September 11, inclusive and subject to extensions.
         
MONTE DEI PASCHI DI SIENA BMPS.MI
Monte dei Paschi di Siena CEO Luigi Lovaglio is said to be working on a merger plan as a defence against the takeover bid launched by Intesa Sanpaolo ISP.MI, AdnKronos news agency reported on Friday. The plan would involve "Banco BPM BAMI.MI and, indirectly, Credit Agricole Italia," and would have a further potential development in the opening of merger discussions between Generali GASI.MI and AXA AXAF.PA, the newswire added.

(*) PRYSMIAN PRY.MI 
The cable maker said on Monday it had signed a long-term agreement worth up to €5.5 billion ($6.4 billion) with Molex, a Koch-owned electronics company, as it stepped up its push into the fast-growing data centre market.   
The agreement is part of a broader set of deals and commercial initiatives with hyperscalers and data centre infrastructure providers which are seen generating more than €10 billion in additional cumulative revenue by 2035 compared with 2025.

The engineering group on Monday said its unit Tecnimont was awarded engineering, procurement, commissioning and start-up activities for a large-scale fertilizer complex in Argentina, based on Nextchem's urea technologies, for a total value of €1.3 billion.  
        
(*) ERG ERG.MI 
The renewable energy producer and Europe's largest generator of renewable energy Statkraft said on Monday they signed a seven-year financial Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) effective from January 1, 2027. 

(*) OFFICINA STELLARE OS.MI 
     The aerospace and engineering company said on Monday it had signed an agreement to acquire Mavel, a maker of rare earth-free electric motors and AI-based engineering design systems for the aerospace and defence sectors, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition will be funded about 80%, with the remainder to be paid through newly issued shares under a reserved capital increase, subject to a lock-up agreement, the statement said.
